The casting around the crankshaft bearing failed and blew out through the oil pan. A new engine is being installed today, while they continue the run in a rental car, and they expect to finish this weekend with the KR car in Grand Rapids. Not exactly as planned, but they are still putting up missing children posters.

Wow... talk about a catastrophic failure...

I'm glad that they're still being allowed to continue in the race and carrying on with their missing children mission. Is Dave working on the motor installation while Darrin drives, or do they both have to be in the car?

The car is being repaired in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Dave and Darrin are in St. Louis. When Darrin picks up the car, Dave will ride with Limo Bob until he and Darrin meet up for the final leg of the trip.

Darrin's insurance company is buying a new engine and installation, will ship his 383 home and repair that too, and is paying for the rental car.

They owe a debt of gratitude to the mayor of Tuscaloosa for stepping in and expediting the repair work.

It's been a roller coaster ride but Dave was quite excited when his buddy with the Lamborgini, bought a brand new one in St. Louis last night at the Bentley/ Lamborgini dealership which was a meeting point in their journey.

Holy crap... what insurance company does he use? Is that normal?

And did the guy that bought the new Lambo have to replace the car he was driving, or he just wanted a new car?

Progressive Insurance, and the Lambo just wants a new one. Dave says he babies the Lambo.

Holy crap! What a whirlwind of stuff happening. I can't wait to hear the whole story from start to finish.

I am just glad everyone is ok, and the car is getting taken care of.

Good to see that Paul's car made it for the run. The last time I saw it - it was up on a lift having open heart surgery (engine replacement). This was from my trip out to LA a few weeks back. I'm the schloob with the middle BTTF car :)

They upgraded it to a Stage 2 engine. I hope that gave it a bit more ooomph for the track portions of the run.

Pauls conversion is a tad too custom for my tastes (Danny Botkin at DMC-CA did the work). Still its a neat little car.

Dave's having a blast with Paul and hopefully I'll get to see the car this weekend in Grand Rapids. Thanks for the picture Gary!

I want a new Lambo. Hell..I want an old Lambo. But not one with Lambo doors. I want to save that for KITT. Maybe a Portofino. There has to be a prototype for that thing laying around. Perhaps turn it into the Lamborghini Family Truckster.

Here are a few pics from last night. I would have taken more, but Dave, Darrin, and I were drinking beer at the lamborghini dealership. Yeah, must have been 20 Lambo's in the showroom. The guy thats driving the white Countach bought a satin black brand new Mercialago....yeah....right there. 350K+

Shorty and Limo Bob are frickin hilarious, and Paul with the Time Machine is a really nice guy.

D&D are driving the snot out of a pimped out (not really, just stickers) Dodge Nitro. Atleast they got the V-6 model

FIrst of all, there is a NEW MR. ANGRY.......version 2

There is a really weak new charger (black) that is runnign with them, and it has a KR scanner. definatley an older one, smaller in scale and not very bright.
Regarding Paul's BTTF car, it started as a 6 month 60K project. 2 years and 150K later, they finished.
